What is the premature dwarf cashew?
Premature dwarf cashew is a cashew-tree fruit with specially selected clone, which has standard color and shape, less tannin and higher sugar content than conventional cashew fruit.
The dwarf cashew-tree is a short tree that allows the fruits to be hand-reaped, directly from the tree, providing conditions to reap the fruit while noticing in loco the fruit’s degree of ripening. This provides a fruit reaping with high quality, without the impurities of the fruits picked off the soil.
The cashew-tree is premature, because it starts its commercial production already in its second year of life, while the conventional cashew-tree starts to produce normally 6 years after plantation.
The premature dwarf cashew predominant at Itaueira is the CCP-76 clone characterized by its reddish-yellow color, rounded shape and average weight of 100 g with an average-sized nut weighing 10 g. Besides this variant, Itaueira is multiplying GAIA 1, GAIA 2, BV-01, CCP-09 and CCP 1001 clonal gardens and some new variants from EMBRAPA-EPACE.
